Wooley Bully’s is also where Dan Bubien shot and debuted his “To Youngstown” music video, which has drawn more than 4,300 YouTube views.
I recently wrote about “To Youngstown,” the single from Bubien’s blues album “Empty Roads,” which he will unveil Friday at Pittsburgh’s Club Cafe.
Bubien sent me an advance copy of “Empty Roads,” a solid collection of original material, showcasing the Aliquippa native’s soulful voice and smooth and smoky guitar playing.
One of the best songs is “Fight Club,” for which … wait, are we allowed to talk about “Fight Club”? I think there’s a rule against that.
Maybe I instead should mention “Dizzy Eyes,” which treats your ears to the powerhouse pipes of New Brighton guest vocalist Morgan Maybray. The daughter of the late-Bill Maybray of the Jaggerz also joins current Jaggerz frontman Jimmie Ross as backing vocalists on “Keep Love in Mind,” a ballad with old-school R&B charm.
Ross will make a guest appearance at Friday’s CD release show, which starts at 10 p.m. with a $10 cover that includes a free copy of the album.
Bubien will be backed by his tight and seasoned band including Timmy Mabin on keys, Gary Ripper on bass and drummer Andy Taravella — all ex-members of Billy the Kid & the Regulators.
Bubien also tapped the talents of Pittsburgh studio aces Eric DeFade (sax) and Chris Nacy (harmonica) both of whom will appear at Friday’s show.
