If you’ve listened to Pittsburgh’s The Sun Kings then you’ll know singer and guitarist Dan Bubien. He’s a literally groovy guy who has been playing on the Pittsburgh scene for 20 years. You’ll also know there’s no place you’d rather be than Club Café on Friday, September 13th for the release party of his new album, Empty Roads. So click your heels together three times and say, “There’s no place like Club Café!” Home is severely overrated when the other option is funk and old school soul! Doors open at 10PM and the show starts at 10:30.
“There are two sides to this album,” says Bubien. He calls them “Louisiana swamp” and “smooth soul sounds,” To him, they’re complete opposites, the first being gritty blues and the other rounded with harmonies. Bubien has been recording Empty Roads for a year with some seriously talented musicians. They include, Eric Defade, Ralph Guzzi a horn arranger, and Chris Nancy on harmonica. There’s also the other members of The Sun Kings – bass player Gary Ripper, drummer Andy Taravella, keyboardist Timmy Mabin… In other words, it’s a blues buffet for your ears.
“To Youngstown” is a single off of Empty Roads with a music video that gives a taste of what Dan Bubien is about. In this particular instance it’s cars, guitars and a really steamy motel scene. And of course great music! It was co-written by Roman Marocco and produced by Jay Dudt of the Grammy Award Winning, Audible Images Recording Studio. The music video was directed and produced by Joshua Franzos. Check it out!
The CD release party is 21+ and there will be plenty of drinking, dancing, and jamming to be had in the Southside. Tickets are $10!
